Tranquility

A string quartet intro to a folky-pop song (not really sure of the style to be truthful)

Another grumpy old man song (again from the Gambia but could have been from anywhere really) about people who insist on talking loudly in public places. The final verse and ending was added by Steve Franks!

words and music by Martin Stirrup 2017

D C
People talk about pollution of the rivers and seas
D C
We need to find solutions on that we can all agree
Bm A G
But there’s another danger messing up the air
Bm A G F#m
If you don’t know what I’m talking about …. let me make you aware

There’s a couple over there several metres away
And they’re talking so loud I can hear all that they say
I can have a conversation in a murmuring tone
There’s no need for altercation – but please leave my earholes alone!
A E
Now you may say I’m adding to that noise
G D
And yes of course that’s true
A E
But what other means have I got to employ
F#m G
To get my message over to you

If I need background noise please give me water or birds
I don’t need thumping musak, don’t be absurd
Don’t want to hear your opinions on how the world should be
Just give me slice of tranquility
Instrumental?
A E G D loop
I don’t wanna hear your business, don’t want to hear your voice
I’d stick you in a cone of silence if I had the choice
You say you like your apartment it’s so sunny and bright
You’ve had a little tummy trouble but now you feel alright
You went on a trip the guide made you laugh
You had a few beers and then took a bath
(Double time chord changes from here))
You tried swimming in the sea but the water was too cool
So you put your towel out early and stayed by the pool
What’s the weather like at home, how much rain?
You stubbed your big toe on the chairleg, oh what pain
A E G D
All your personal problems details of your health
F#m G A
I don’t wanna know your business keep it to yourself!

If I need background noise please give me water or birds up a tone E D
I don’t need thumping musak, don’t be absurd E D
Don’t want to hear your opinions on how the world should be E D
Just give me slice of tranquility C#m B A
all I’m asking for‘s a little tranquility C#m B A G#m
(followed by 30 minutes silence (thanks Steve)… definitely not 3 minutes, oh no…)
