Those Days Again

Another folky singalong… this time extolling the joys of lost youth. It was never meant to suggest that ‘things were better back then’ (‘cos I don’t think they were), rather to capture the innocent naivety and optimism of youth. Steve felt it needed some counterbalancing though, so added a darker section of his own.

RAK 15 Those Days Again (Stirrup/Franks!) (Steve Franks & Connie Gilham harmonies)

C F C G C
Set it down in rhythm, set it down in rhyme
C F C G
Set it down forever, while we still have the time
F F4 F F2 F C G
And though you’ve heard it all before we’ll sing it once again
C F C C2 C G C G
For we’ll never see the like of those days again

Bb F C
Oh the days were full of sunshine and the nights were full of fun
Bb F C G
We thought not of the future, we knew it’s time would come
C C F C F G
We’d never rest for a merry jest and join in each refrain
C F C C2 C G C
Oh we’ll never see the like of those days again

chorus

Oh we were full of innocence that some might call naïve
But if we were honest with ourselves, then how could we deceive
All the same we writ it plain with hope that would remain
Oh we’ll never see the like of those days again

Am F E
Confident and arrogant we shunned our parents’ ways added by Steve
Am C E7
Put our trust in peace and love while bloody wars they raged
Dm Ab G
For mostly we just partied through the Vietnam campaign
Am F E
Getting work was easy, getting girls was new
Am C E7
Getting stoned was dangerous and we lost a few
Dm C G
As Janice, Jimmy, Keith and Brian tumbled from that train
Am F C G Am
Oh we’ll never see the likes of those days again

Oh we never thought of parting, of going our separate way
There was such camaraderie that always held its sway
For we’d never pass for an empty glass, no we’d treat it with disdain
Oh we’ll never see the like of those days again

Chorus x2 plus slower last line ending on Am
