Knocking at my Door

A jazzy, folky acoustic song with strings -based instrumental. I think the words came first on this, but their rhythm drove the guitar-part structure. I scored the strings using Sibelius, as usual.

verse:
B A E
All we play is catch me if you can
C#m G#m F#m E
Is there something I have missed, that I don’t understand?
B A E
Aren’t we getting old for playground ways
C#m G#m F#m A - B
Ain’t it time we were moving on to another phase

So now I’m gonna take a leaf out of your book
I declare that we’ll get there by hook or crook
I can play the waiting game you see
I’ll put my faith in inevitability

Chorus
C B E E2/4 Eb E F#m7b5
I think I see the game you play but I’m not sure of the rules
C#m G# A E Eº B7
So it’s eyes down as we circle round like a pair of lovestruck fools
C B E E2/4 Eb E F#m7b5
Feels like stage fright but I think I know the score
C#m G# A E Eº Am6 E
And you know that I’ll be ready when you come knocking at my door

I know you’re playing turn and turn again
All I see’s the certainty of sunshine after rain
I feel as if my fortune’s on the rise
I’m sincere the future’s clear when I look in your eyes
