Happy Return

A folky waltz, or sorts

This was just a general 'stuck in the desert' song, but on reflection it made me think of troops stuck in Afghanistan or Iraq... (hence the Chinook intro). I have heard it said that warfare is mostly days of intense boredom (punctuated by minutes of intense action and peril).

ROR 09 Happy Return

D A C G
There’s sand on my boots and a breeze ‘cross the desert
D A C
A song on my lips and a smile on my face
D A C G
And I don’t give two hoots for those sad faced depressors
Bm A
My heartbeat still skips and pulse it does race
C G F C
Watching through heat haze impatient sand devils
C G F
Spinning in line at the edge of my view
C G F C
Passing the time in imaginary revels
G
Thoughts in my mind spinning slowly round you

Desert sky clarity, azure unending
Crystalline visions perfect and pure
Heading for parity, happiness pending
No indecisions, safe and secure
24 hours and I’m back in the city
24 hours with nothing to do
24 hours seems too long, more’s the pity
So I’ll fill in the hours just thinking of you

F G
Long’s been the time since your kisses I’ve tasted
F G
Long lonely months here with naught but the view
D A G
Kicking my heels through the time I have wasted
D A G
Time’s unimportant if not spent with you.

Soon I’ll be home again holding you tightly
Everything’s gonna be sweeter with two
I’m not gonna roam again. wrongly or rightly
No one will prise me away from you
No more the heartache of watching and waiting
No more the fear of uncertain return
An end to that solitary contemplating
Enjoying together good times we have earned
