Deep Red Sunset
Definitely inspired by the sunsets over Bagan.. but written with a follow-on feel from 'Don't Wanna Talk About the Girl' - getting it back together and all that. (Why I wrote songs like these whilst travelling in Myanmar is of course a mystery...)
Mary's piano helps to give it an almost hymn-like feel.
D G F#m A D
Deep red sunset shine your light on me
Bm A D
Blow my mind and set my spirit free
Bm A
Though I know things must change
G
The hope still remains
Em C- A
That I can get back my equanimity
D G F#m A D
Deep red sunset shine your light on me
F#m D
Spread my wings and let me be
Bm F#m
As I once was before
G
You walked through my door
G F#m A D
Deep red sunset shine your light on me
D G
The best times are when we stand together
D C- A
But there are times when a man must stand alone
G F#m
When you’ve got to see it through
Bm G
And no-one else will do
Em A
And your dreams with all the summer birds have flown
D G
And though your darkest thoughts may still wonder whether
D C- A
That empty feeling will ever pass
G F#m
Despite the long travail
Bm
You know you must prevail
G D C- G
Each moment growing better than the last
G A D
Sliding to the future from the past.
