02 Winter Song 1973

Written whilst camping on the Isle of Wight in January… It was a poem rather than a song really but I think the backwards guitars really go with the lyric.

Lying softly feather down
Nestled in the wind-blown leaves
Tread the earth with solid sound
Crisply crackling frosty weaves
Soulless sun with image pale
Set in clear translucent sky
Fear the cold if it should fail
Fear the wind if it should stir

Flowing freely river light
Dappled serpent dancing dream
Liquid silver hidden might,
Nothing simple as it seems
Cast adrift a moss-patch falls
Disappears with swirling pride
Fear the sound the river calls,
Fear the river in your mind
