18 You’ll never be alone 1969
This three part song was quite popular but always needed something of an explanation, thus:
part1: a standard intro about a lonely woman etc… a bit boring
part2: things start to get interesting as a UFO lands in her backgarden and she is absorbed into some kind of composite alien being.
Part 3: an advert for the travelling aliens - you’re never alone with a composite mind!
Part 3 would sometimse be strung out into a rock-out singalong – especially if Keith Sidwell had anything to do with it.
Post script: I wrote this song in about half an hour, sitting in my bedroom in my parents’ house in East Ham one the early evening just after tea – and absolutely stone cold sober. I have no idea where it came from (unless there was a passing UFO sending out the vibes…)
Sally Jones lives with her ma
sits all alone smokes a cigar
Doesn’t time run so slow pantomime of long ago
Talks to her dog he understands
Sleeps like a log head in her hands
Doesn’t time run so slow pantomime of long ago
Walks to the window looks at the snow
Looks for a lover who’ll never show
Doesn’t time run so slow pantomime of long ago
Sally Jones lives with her ma
sleeps all alone smokes a cigar
But what is it now she thinks she can see
A light in the distance approaching for all to see
A strange glowing object descends from the sky
And lands in her garden makes all the flowers die
And then as she watches a circle appears
A beckoning radiance invites her to draw so near
A strange force upon her destroys all her fear
And as she approaches her mind starts to think so clear
The thoughts that she had all shatter and fall
Her mind fills with knowledge makes her feel very small
She reaches to touch for the form she can see
But is that a mirror oh no that can never be
The vision collapses the circle it fades
What strange apparitions are these as she looks amazed
For all this is her and she is one part
Its her at the very controls as the motor starts
Float away any day no need to sit and moan
Join the crowd shout aloud you’ll never be alone
just one mind any kind can fit in peacefully
say hello just let go keep the harmony
come and see what you can be we offer so much more
you pay no fee but soon you’ll be better than before
Float away any day no need to sit and moan
Join the crowd shout aloud you’ll never be alone
you’ll never be alone
you’ll never be alone
you’ll never be alone
you’ll never be alone
